How to Compress Image Under 200KB for Web

Many websites, government portals, and job application systems impose a maximum upload limit of 200KB or 300KB on image files. If your photo or document scan exceeds this, you simply can't submit it. The good news is that for most use cases, a 200KB image looks virtually identical to one that's 3MB — you just need the right compression tool.

When 200KB Matters

A 200KB file size limit is common on government websites (HMRC, DWP, DVLA), educational application portals (UCAS, university portals), and business registration systems. For a standard photo at 1024×768px, a well-compressed JPG can easily be under 100KB while still looking sharp on screen.

How to Compress an Image Under 200KB
